Master Key Experience Week 11

How to stay focused

Why is it so hard to stay focused?

It turns out that our brain is fine tuned to distractions. Distraction is an alert, it might be dangerous, and it wakes up our reptilian brain. The reptilian brain is the oldest part of the brain, controls the body’s vital functions like heart rate, breathing, body temperature and to keep us safe, among other things. The survival instinct overrules other parts of our brain and is automatic and virtually unstoppable.

There you have it, it’s not your fault that you can’t focus.

To become more focused:

  • Do creative work first. Every decision we makes tiers the brain, finish the day with easy tasks like deleting emails and folding the laundry.
  • Eliminate distractions both visual and auditory. Turn of notifications on your computer and phone.
  • Have a plan. What you need to do today, have it written down.
  • Train your focus it’s like a muscle. Concentrate on one single task and start small, like 5 minutes and work up to more minutes.
  • Take regular breaks. Take both physical and mental breaks, move your body and relax your brain.

There you have it. Make your plan and start training your focus.

Master Key Experience Week 10

Week 10 the Thanksgiving week.

I am back from turkey-coma after eating to much during the holiday. No webinar so no new add-on to activities this week. This is great for me because I am still working on catching up after getting behind on my activities. I have added more repetitions to the mantra ‘Do it Now’ I believe this will help me.

I have participated in the course Find Your Authentic Purpose. This three part activity is great. It is a fun way to find your big dream. Then the question is, dose my DMP line up with my big dream?

Yes, It Dose.

Have a great day

What is your preferred way of learning?

It has been very interesting to learn more about the different styles of learning not to mention all the different studies and definitions of learning styles.

Most people have a dominant learning style but it is often combined with other styles and the more different styles you use the faster you can learn new things.

Lets look at some different ways to describe learning styles:

  • Visual (spatial)  pictures, images, color, graphs, maps. This is the most common learning style, 65% of population. Want something to focus on and is often detail oriented.
  • Aural (auditory, musical) sound, music. This is ranked second, 30% of population. Loves music and all kinds of sounds, rhymes, rhythms and spoken words. Great at learning language and often fantastic story tellers.
  • Verbal (linguistic) loves language both written and spoken. Verbal learners has no problem with long text in contrast to visual that need the text broken up.
  • Physical (kinesthetic) learn through physical action. They are often coordinated and good at sports, art and drama.
  • Logical (mathematical) logic, numbers, reasoning and systems. Likes to solve problems and understand complex patterns.
  • Social (interpersonal) learn in groups with other people. They have strong communication skills.
  • Solitary (intrapersonal) alone, self-study. They are often self-directed, quiet and independent. Need time to think and process information.
  • Naturalistic (kinesthetic in nature) ‘This one is new to me’. Naturalistic learners are curious and investigative. They can take hands-on experience from nature to understand the world around them and draw conclusions about plants, animals and the environment. They tend to be very good observers and are naturally comfortable with animals.

Lets look at another way of describing learning styles.

Index of learning styles

Sensory   <–> Intuitive

Visual      <–> Verbal

Active      <–> Reflective

Sequential <–> Global

  • Sensory: Prefers factual, concrete and practical information
  • Intuitive: Loves to learn from concepts, theories and innovative information. Is looking for the meaning.
  • Visual: Want to see information represented as graphs, pictures and diagrams.
  • Verbal: Likes explanations with words, written or spoken.
  • Active: Enjoy working in groups, learn by trying and building models.
  • Reflective: Enjoy solving problems by themselves, evaluate options and analyse information.
  • Sequential: Like to have information order and focus on details to understand larger concepts.
  • Global: Is opposite to Sequential need to see the big picture first and then focus on the details.

Personally I like the second description of learning styles. My style of learning is sensory, verbal and reflective. My plan is to work on improving my active learning style.

What are your learning styles?

Making the recording with DMP to music

Downloading the Audacity program was easy after finding the right website http://www.audacityteam.org/download.

Finding a song that I liked was not that easy. It did take a long time.

“I went down the rabbit hole. The rabbit was home and invited me to dinner. I accepted the invitation and stayed.”

That’s my story and I am sticking to it.

My advise about the music for your recording is to deiced what song or music you want and then just search for that one.

My recording is finally done so all is well.

Master Key Experience Week 7

Why is it so hard to forgive?

Forgiveness Greek word, to let go.

There are many really good reasons to practice forgiveness some of them are:

  • improved mental health
  • less anxiety, stress and hostility
  • lower blood pressure
  • stronger immune system
  • improved heart health
  • improved self-esteem
  • healthier relationships

I believe that one of the reasons it’s so hard to forgive is that we are dealing with very strong feelings like anger, resentment, vengeance, betrayal, abandonment etc. But what is important is that there is no need for an apology or you don’t even have to tell the other person that they are forgiven. They might not even know that they have hurt you. Forgiveness is important to you.

Forgiveness is for our own happiness and growth. When we hold on to hurt, pain and anger it harms us. It eats us from the inside. Letting go of the bad feelings brings you peace of mind and enables you to heal and move on with your life.

If you are like me and have a hard time sometimes forgiving yourself and others there is a very simple practice called Ho’oponopono. It’s only four steps that you repeat over and over again with feelings

  1. I’m sorry
  2. Please forgive me
  3. Thank you
  4. I love you

If you want to know more about Ho’oponopono just google it.

Have a great day

This weeks assignment: Write a Press Release

But what they really want is the article that would be the result of a press release.

What is a Press Release?

It is a very formal document that is sent to different newspapers, magazines or other form of media to get free publicity through these channels.

Copy from WikiHow:

How to Write a Press Release

Start a press release with an attention-grabbing headline in bold font. Begin the body copy with the date and city that the release is from. Your lead sentence should be a concise summary of the subject of the release. The rest of the body tells all the important details of your story: who, what, when where why and how. Put the most important information first, followed by more general information, and don’t forget to include your contact information at the end.”

End copy

If you want more information on what a press release is just google it.

By the way don’t forget the three hashtags at the end of your press release and it should be short and concise on one page.

I am going to follow the direct instruction: Write a press release. What are you going to write the press release or the article that would be the desired result from your press release?

The Law of Giving and Receiving

Circulation keeps a river and every living thing in it alive and vital. Giving and receiving are different aspects of the flow of energy in the universe. If you stop the flow of either, you interfere with nature’s intelligence.

To be able to give you need a receiver. Receiving is part of giving. So why is it sometime so difficult to receive? You get a compliment for your nice dress, and you answer with oh this old rag it’s old and not accepting the compliment. Or when somebody offers to help you and you say “No thanks I am fine”. Receiving is a great gift but it require us to open our heart to trust the giver. To become better at receiving you can practice to accept all compliments, say THANK YOU. Be grateful, count your blessings. Write down five things you are grateful for every day. This will help you become a better receiver. By becoming a better receiver you will also become a better giver because they are both connected and cannot exist without the other part.

Master Key Experience Week 3

Why is it so hard to talk about emotions?

If you search on google you will find page after page with lists of emotional words.

It’s great to have the right words. It makes so much easier to express your feelings but not the only thing needed. You have to be brave. Not everybody likes to hear abut your feelings especially if they are not “good” ones like happy, excited and inspired. What about being angry, ashamed, fearful, depressed or jealous? What about feeling vulnerable at the mercy of the world or at least the person you are talking with?

We always want to have the good feelings, happy etc, but if you don’t allow yourself to have all the other feelings you will not be happy. To live a happy life you have to allow the bad feelings and acknowledged them to be able to get to your happy place. Sound awkward, I know, but your can’t live in only one dimension to have a full life. By being aware of the “bad” feelings, helps you understand what is happening inside of you and with that knowledge you can take action and change your story.

Is it worth the work the agony and sometimes sorrow to live with all your emotions?

Yes it is. It gets easier with practice but I don’t know that it is ever going to be effortless.

“The whole is greater than the sum of its parts” –Aristotle
